Acción antibacteriana de extractos corteza de Maytenus macrocarpa (Chuchuhuasi) contra cepas ATCC de Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa y Staphylococcus aureus

Abstract

The increase in community infections such as hospital infections due to infections by bacteria with resistance to multiple antibiotic drugs. They currently constitute one of the problems of greatest concern in global public health, generating the need to be able to find new therapeutic alternatives, and so the search has been expanded through the active principles in plants with antimicrobial effect. Maytenus macrocarpa ̈Chuchuhuasi ̈ is a tree native to the Amazon region of Peru used as an analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. This tree is characterized by containing active compounds such as triterpenoquinones and triterpene dimers, which may have antimicrobial activity. The objective of this study was to determine the antimicrobial action of flavonoids and alkaloids from Maytenus macrocarpa, against the strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 25923 and Escherichia coli ATCC 25922, determining the antimicrobial activity of the extracts using the Kirby Bauer method. It was found that the strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 25923 and Escherichia coli ATCC 25922 were resistant to all the extracts of Maytenus macrocarpa, being the strain of Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 sensitive. It is concluded that the extracts of Maytenus macrocarpa do not present antimicrobial activity against strains gram negative strains and can be considered a good therapeutic option against gram positive strains.
