Abstract
The aim of the study was to evaluate the psychometric properties of the brief version of the fear of negative evaluation scale (BFNE) in a Peruvian sample. There were 405 participants aged 18-65. The total sample was randomly divided into two groups: 205 to exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and 200 to confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The results of the exploratory factor analysis reveal a single-factor structure corroborated through the confirmatory factor analysis (RMSEA = .039; SRMR = .056; CFI = .969 and TLI = .962); evidence of convergent validity was found in positive and significant correlations between the BFNE and the subscales of the DASS-21 (p < .001); Cronbach’s alpha and McDonald’s omega reliability coefficients were computed (α = .884; ω = .887). It is concluded that the BFNE is a valid and reliable measure that should be interpreted as a single-factor scale.
