Resumen

The expected results of a surgical intervention cannot be guaranteed 100%. The multifactorial nature of the human body’s response and related perioperative events make it difficult to predict with certainty the evolution that a surgical act will follow. From the surgical point of view, the most important factors associated with the quality of the outcomes are the surgeon, the surgical technique, and the characteristics of the cleft lip and palate. A complication is considered as an event that occurs in the course of a surgical-anesthetic act different from the usual manifestations of this and that is a consequence of the effects caused by it. A bad outcome is considered as an unwanted effect of an anesthetic surgical which does not achieve the objectives set before surgery. An interdisciplinary management of the cleft lip and palate secondary deformities is recommended considering the physical exam and diagnosis of the sequel as well as the adequate time for its correction.
