Satellite‐derived climatologies of UV index (UVI) and erythemal daily dose were determined for Argentina at a geographical resolution of 0.5° latitude by 0.5° longitude. Total Ozone Mapping Spectrometer climatology of key input parameters was used to calculate the clear‐sky ground‐level solar UV irradiance. NASA Surface meteorology and Solar Energy cloud cover data were used to determine the UV attenuation by clouds. Two cases were tested: (1) monthly averages of total cloud cover and (2) monthly averages for three ranges of cloud cover percentage (0–10%, 10–70%, and 70–100%). Case 2, with smaller biases, was selected. Measured erythemal irradiance at seven stations of the Argentine Ultraviolet Monitoring Network was used to validate the satellite‐derived climatologies, as well as to estimate aerosol parameters, surface albedo corrections, and UV cloud transmittance for the calculations. Annual average biases of the monthly mean satellite‐derived UVI and erythemal daily dose with respect to the ground measurements are mostly within ±10%. The strong longitudinal gradient of UV levels toward the Andes Mountains is emphasized. Very high UVI and erythemal daily dose values are registered in the northwestern tropical high‐elevation Andean plateau, with extreme monthly means above 18 and 10 kJ/m 2 respectively, in December–January. Even northern low‐elevation regions show averages over 12 and 7 kJ/m 2 , respectively. On average, clouds attenuate the clear‐sky erythemal irradiance by less than 20% for most of the continental region during all months. UV levels are considerably higher than those for equivalent regions in the Northern Hemisphere.

Performance-Based Evaluation in Mexico’s Federal Administrative Justice Tribunal and the Federal Judiciary Power: A Comparison

Mexico, being a Federation, has different levels of jurisdictions, courts and tribunals; many differences exist between courts of different states and between state and federal courts. This chapter will focus in particular on the analysis of the performance models that regulate two of Mexico’s federal judicial bodies: on the one hand, the Judicial Power of the Federation, responsible for ordinary federal justice, but also playing a role as constitutional judge through the amparo trial; on the other hand, the Federal Tribunal of Administrative Justice, endowed with constitutional autonomy, and responsible for administrative litigation and for disciplinary sanctions against state employees. Both federal judicial bodies have in place a career system for civil servants and judges that also takes into account performance-based evaluation. Yet, the contents and effects of such evaluations are notably different in the two bodies. This is why the chapter provides a comparative analysis of these two models of performance evaluation, looking in particular at the level of the personnel of the courts and tribunals, and at the measurement of statistical results of their performance in the administration of justice. The comparison will open up the question as to whether measuring performances contributes to the improvement of the quality of justice.

Objective: We developed and validated the psychometric properties of a scale to assess healthy lifestyle in adolescents aged 12 to 18. Methods: A pilot sample of 404 adolescents (54% males and 46% females) and a confirmatory sample of 1713 adolescents (48.7% males and 51.3% females) were considered. Results: In the pilot study, we performed an exploratory factor analysis (EFA), where the toxic relations dimension was changed to the social relations dimension. In the confirmatory study, we performed a confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), where the second-order general factor model presented adequate adjustment indices (CFI = .94; TLI = .93; RMSEA = .04 [90% CI = .039-.044] ; SRMR = .05). In addition, the global scale presented an adequate composite reliability index (CRI = .87) along with the 8 proposed dimensions: social relationships (.62), leisure habits (.55); risk-taking behaviors (.82), eating habits (.66); search for clean air (.57); sun protection (.79); physical activity (.65) and water drinking (.68). Conclusions: The results of the study contribute to an adequate measurement of the construct and evidence for the existence of a second-order general factor model. Furthermore, the study provides a conceptual and statistical basis for the psychometric development of the WMS scale in subsequent studies.
