Abstract
This dataset contains data collected from 354 Peruvian higher education students through a structured questionnaire. It includes sociodemographic variables, social media use characteristics, social network addiction items, self-esteem items, and family communication items. The dataset also contains total scores and specific dimensions related to social network addiction, including obsession with social networks, lack of personal control, and excessive use, as well as total self-esteem and family communication scores. The data were used to examine the influence of self-esteem and family communication on social network addiction among Peruvian higher education students.
