Item type:Publicación, Intelligent automated control of abiotic water and thermal stress in greenhouses for the optimization of pre-basic potato production(2025-08-05) ;Rudy Medina ;Bill Canaza ;A. Angel Sullon ;Muss Evgeny IvanovichThe projected 50% increase in global food demand by 2050, coupled with declining freshwater availability and climate change, highlights the urgent need for more efficient agricultural practices. This study presents the development and implementation of a low-cost automated irrigation and thermal control system for pre-basic potato ( Solanum tuberosum L.) production in greenhouses in Siberia, Russia. The system is part of the DARY project and focuses on optimizing water and energy use under controlled water and thermal stress conditions. This experiment was conducted during two consecutive seasons in 2024 and employed environmental sensors and advanced algorithms to dynamically regulate irrigation and temperature according to the crop's physiological needs. It was compared with a conventional system under similar conditions, evaluating operational cost and control panel functionality. The results showed a 22% increase in pre-basic potato production, 27% water savings, and 12% reduction in electrical consumption. Additionally, the control panel cost was 35% lower than that of the commercial system, highlighting its scalability and adaptability. The system architecture includes an intuitive web application, MQTT communication, NoSQL database, and microcontrollers. The results validate DARY as a viable and sustainable technological solution for precision agriculture, especially in resource-constrained contexts. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

In this research, the goal is to develop an intelligent platform (IP) to meet the needs of different participants in RCT. It presents the experience of focusing on requirements engineering, going through different iterations where a SWOT analysis was performed, while using extreme programming, complying with ISO 25010, etc. The accurate identification of requirements is essential for the implementation and usability of the platform to have a social impact on the direct participants.</p> - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publicación, Scatter Search Applied to the Vehicle Routing Problem with Simultaneous Delivery and Pickup(2011-04-01); ;Manuel Laguna ;Dan Abensur GandelmanAnnibal Parracho Sant’AnnaThough its origins can be traced back to 1977, the development and application of the metaheuristic Scatter Search (SS) has stayed dormant for 20 years. However, in the last 10 years, research interest has positioned SS as one of the recognizable methodologies within the umbrella of evolutionary search. This paper presents an application of SS to the problem of routing vehicles that are required both to deliver and pickup goods (VRPSDP). This specialized version of the vehicle routing problem is particularly relevant to organizations that are concerned with sustainable and environmentally-friendly business practices. In this work, the efficiency of SS is evaluated when applied to this problem. Computational results of the application to instances in the literature are presented. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
- Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publicación, Techno-Economic Comparison of Electrochemical Batteries and Supercapacitors for Solar Energy Storage in a Brazil Island Application: Off-Grid and On-Grid Configurations(2025-01-01) ;Alex Ximenes Naves; ;Assed HaddadDieter BoerThe growing concern for energy efficiency and the increasing deployment of intermittent renewable energies has led to the development of technologies for capturing, storing, and discharging energy. Supercapacitors can be considered where batteries do not meet the requirements. However, supercapacitors in systems with a slower charge/discharge cycle, such as photovoltaic systems (PVS), present other obstacles that make replacing batteries more challenging. An extensive literature review unveils a knowledge gap regarding a methodological comparison of batteries and supercapacitors. In this study, we address the technological feasibility of intermittent renewable energy generation systems, focusing on storage solutions for PVS energy. We propose a framework according to one of the essential parameters for their application in PVS: Energy Density or Specific Energy (Wh/kg). Through computational modelling, issues related to the intermittency and seasonality of the solar energy source are addressed, evaluating the possible benefits of implementing batteries, supercapacitors, and hybrid solutions in renewable energy generation systems. Also, the characteristics of two hypothetical configurations of photovoltaic systems, off-grid and on-grid, were analysed. This analysis highlights the characteristics of totally isolated systems (e.g., on an island or remote village) and systems connected to the grid (e.g., solar farms), where eliminating the use of batteries can bring significant benefits, in addition to tax incentives, which are decisive in the investment decision-making process. The results clarify the viability of PVS and allow an understanding of parameters that can support the technical decision process between isolated or non-isolated systems, reflecting economic and financial issues. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
- Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publicación, Tabu Search Applied to Community-based Rural Tourism(2017-01-01); Óscar MendozaCommunity-based Rural Tourism (CBRT) has been consolidated as a socially and environmentally responsible alternative in Peru for generating income opportunities for the rural sector. The development of CBRT is still incipient in Peru, and therefore the information generated by public and private institutions is insufficient and in some cases does non-exist. Worldwide, 91% of people use the Internet to find places to visit. However, the use of the Internet brings new challenges for the tourism industry. Different types of consumers, such as Baby Boomers, Generation X and Generation Y, present different challenges. Generation Y is the most active and much more involved in Internet travel planning. With regard to information on ecotourism and / or historic tourism in the Puno region of Peru, there is no information on the web, much less routes according to the needs of tourists. The objective of this work is to develop an Intelligent Digital Platform to apply data science and big data to find smart routes that satisfy tourists' requirements. To obtain the route, a nearest neighbor heuristic was implemented, using 2-opt and the Tabu Search metaheuristic implemented in Python programming language. Computational results demonstrate the efficiency of the Tabu Search algorithm when using data found in the literature and when using real data, guaranteeing the reduction of distances traveled in the shortest time possible, reducing travel costs. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
