Five diplectanids, including a new species, were identified: Acleotrema alejandroi sp. nov. from K. vaigiensis; A. diplobulbus (Yamaguti, 1968) from K. vaigiensis; A. nenue (Yamaguti, 1968) Dominques & Boeger, 2007 from both K. vaigiensis and K. elegans; A. oliveri (León-Régagnon, Pérez-Ponce de León & Garcia Prieto, 1997) from K. elegans and K. vaigiensis; A. spiculare (Yamaguti, 1968) from K. vaigiensis. Acleotrema alejandroi sp. nov. is easily differentiated from all congeneric species by its male copulatory organ (MCO), which is J-shaped with a spatulate distal end. The middle portion of MCO is surrounded by a sclerotized sac; and the distal portion of the sac bears an elongated, sclerotized U-shaped process. Acleotrema oliveri is redescribed based on examination of the type specimen (holotype and paratypes) and newly collected specimens. In addition, new morphometric data and whole-mount drawing of A. nenue, A. spiculare and A. diplobulbus are provided. Acleotrema nenuoides (Rakotofiringa, Oliver & Lambert, 1987) is considered a junior synonym of A. nenue. The present finding brings to 13, the number of known species of Acleotrema Johnston & Tiegs, 1922, and represents the first diplectanid species infecting kyphosid fishes from Peru. Until now only one nominal species, A. javierbustamantei, and two putative lineages-A. moisesii (Rio Yuyapichis, Peru) and A. siona (Santa Cecilia, Ecuador)-had their advertisement calls formally described (Duellman 1978; Schlüter 1981; Rojas et al. 2016). Item type:Publicación, Online academic satisfaction during the COVID-19 pandemic in medical students: role of sleep, emotions, college adjustment, and digital skills(2022-02-28); ; ;Josue F. Canaza ;Fiorella Hernandez<ns3:p> <ns3:bold>Background:</ns3:bold> The measures taken to contain the COVID-19 pandemic, led to significant changes in university education, resulting in the new normal standard of virtual teaching in many undergraduate medical schools worldwide. Therefore, the aim of this paper was to determine the factors related to academic satisfaction with virtual teaching in medical students during the COVID-19 pandemic. </ns3:p> <ns3:p> <ns3:bold>Methods:</ns3:bold> A cross-sectional-analytical study was conducted on medical students at a private university in Peru, through self-reported questionnaires divided into sociodemographic data and variables of interest that could influence academic satisfaction during the pandemic. To evaluate possible factors related to academic satisfaction, stepwise regression models were performed for both sexes. </ns3:p> <ns3:p> <ns3:bold>Results:</ns3:bold> In total, data from 310 medical students, 117 males and 193 females, were analyzed. Academic satisfaction reached a score of 11.2 ± 2.9, which was similar in both sexes. The best regression model for males (AIC: 544.32; RMSE: 2.42; R <ns3:sup>2</ns3:sup> : 0.30) showed that adaptation to university life (favorable change) and depression (unfavorable change) explained 30% of changes in students' academic satisfaction. While in females (AIC: 907.59; RMSE: 2.49; R <ns3:sup>2</ns3:sup> : 0.22) the model integrated favorable factors such as adjustment to college life and anxiety; while depression and poor sleep quality were unfavorable factors. </ns3:p> <ns3:p> <ns3:bold>Conclusion:</ns3:bold> Factors that contributed to academic satisfaction in medical students were determined in this study, which differed by gender. Item type:Publicación, Changes in Eating Habits and Lifestyles in a Peruvian Population during Social Isolation for the COVID-19 Pandemic(2021-12-01) ;Salomón Huancahuire‐Vega; ; ;Jacksaint SaintilaBACKGROUND: Peru has one of the highest infection and death rates in the world for the COVID-19 pandemic. The government implemented house confinement measures with probable consequences on lifestyle, particularly affecting eating habits, physical activity, sleep quality, and mental health. OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to assess the lifestyles, physical activity, and sleep characteristics, as well as changes in eating habits in a Peruvian population during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS: A cross-sectional descriptive study was performed. We analyzed Peruvian adults based on an online self-administered questionnaire divided into sociodemographic, anthropometrics, COVID-19 diagnosis reported, lifestyle habits, and frequency of consumption of foods. RESULTS: During confinement for COVID-19, 1176 participants were studied. Of these, most reported weight gain (1 to 3 kg) and 35.7% were overweight. The lifestyles habits showed that 54.8% reported doing physical activity and 37.2% sleep less. The Peruvian sample presented a main meal pattern of breakfast (95.7%), lunch (97.5%), and dinner (89.1%). Likewise, eating habits before and during COVID-19 pandemic showed that vegetables (OR:1.56, CI95% 1.21-200), fruit (OR: 1.42, CI95% 1.10-1.81), legumes (OR:1.67, CI95% 1.23-2.28), and eggs (OR: 2.00, CI95% 1.52-2.65) presented significant consumption increase during social isolation, while bakery products (OR: 0.74, CI95% 0.56-0.97), meat, snack, refreshment, and fast food decreased in consumption. Other foods showed no significant differences. CONCLUSION: This study showed an important frequency of overweight and sleep changes. Item type:Publicación, Association Between Anthropometric and Hematological Parameters and the Diagnosis of Intestinal Parasitosis in Low-Income Children(2024-11-23) ;Beatriz Funayama Alvarenga Freire ;Augustine J Sohn; Objective: This study aims to determine the association between anthropometric values and laboratory tests with parasitosis diagnosis and identify diagnostic models for parasitosis without relying on copro-parasitological examinations. Methods: Data were collected from 1894 children aged 0–14 who attended a medical center for low-income children in Lima, Peru, between 2021 and 2022. Anthropometric data (BMI, weight, height), laboratory data (red blood cells, hemoglobin, platelets, hematocrit, mean corpuscular volume, mean corpuscular hemoglobin, eosinophils), and parasitological examination results were analyzed. Prevalence ratios for the association between parasitosis and each anthropometric and laboratory variable were estimated using multivariable Poisson regression. Regression models were developed for each type of parasite found, and the diagnostic value was assessed using ROC curves. Results: A high prevalence of parasitosis was identified (41.9%), including Blastocystis hominis (29.1%), Endolimax nana (7.76%), Entamoeba coli (5.97%), Giardia duodenalis (6.44%), and Enterobius vermicularis (1.85%). It was found that the male sex (PRa 1.18), the age group of 2–5 years (PRa 4.83) and >5 years (PRa 4.59), the percentage of eosinophils (PRa 1.02 for every 1% increase), and height/age with −5 SD (PRa 1.34) were associated with a greater risk of parasitosis. Satisfactory values were only shown for diagnostic models associating Enterobius vermicularis and BMI, with a diagnostic value of 70.9% and 70.2% for a BMI < 12 and hematocrit > 29.8%, and BMI < 12 and hemoglobin < 10.6 g/L, respectively. Conclusions: Satisfactory diagnostic value models were only found for parasitosis by Enterobius vermicularis, suggesting the potential for reducing reliance on copro-parasitological exams in resource-limited settings.Citas (OpenAlex): 0 - Algunas métricas están bloqueadas por suconfiguración de consentimiento

HurtadoThe objectives of this study were to determine the antimicrobial activity of a culture of Streptomyces sp. 6E3 isolated from minerals against different pathogenic strains, to produce an extract and to estimate the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of the fractions against methicillin-resistant Staphylococ cus aureus (MRSA). Streptomyces sp. 6E3 showed antimicrobial activity primarily against Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus). Five of the six fractions presented antimicrobial activity and the most effective gave a MIC of 0.88 ug / mL against S. aureus ATCC 33862, 0.44 ug / mL against S. aureus ATCC 43300 and 1.76 ug / mL vs. a S. aureus MRSA strain. We integrate morphological and phylogenetic analyses to provide evidence of new species. R. angeli sp. nov. is diagnosable from all congeners by its pronounced fleshy proboscis and R. unapensis sp. nov. by the small size (mean snout-vent length=37.7 4.1 mm) of adult males, snout pointed in dorsal view, nearly acute in lateral view, and small bony protrusion at the angle of jaws among other characters. The two species are allopatric, where the first species is known to be associated inhabits upland (=terra firme) forests, while the second white sand forests (=varillales) around Iquitos city.
