Item type:Publicación, Sperm chromatin stability and their relationship with fertilization rate in Sheep of the Junín race(Universidad del Zulia, Facultad de Ciencias Veterinarias, 2022-09-28) ;Unchupaico-Payano, Ide ;Alponte-Sierra, Alberto ;Quispe, Carlos ;Ancco, EdithThe objective of this research was to evaluate the effect of sperm on chromatin stability and its relationship with the membrane integrity structural – physiological and the rate of fertilization of female sheep. Ejaculates of sperm (2 × 109 sperm·mL-1) with 70% of motility were collected using an artificial vagina (n=5, 2 years old. For this, each ram was served with fifteen female sheep (n=75), generating thus five different Groups (A, B, C, D, and E). A control Group also was considered. Sperm nuclear chromatin stability (NCS) was evaluated using the Borate Buffer (BB), Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate (SDS), and the mixture of Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) + SDS. The fertilization rate was evaluated after 16-18 hours post sperm injection. Sperm concentration showed a significant difference (P<0.05) between Groups. In Contrast, seminal volume, and sperm motility do not show a significant difference (P>0.05). A high correlation (r2=0.52) was observed between morphology and motility, and the fertilization rate was 74.6% (n=56). It was concluded in general that techniques to evaluate nuclear condensation values do have a high likelihood to give a diagnosis about the future potential of sperm populations in Junín ram.Citas (OpenAlex): 0metric-badges.view 3 - Algunas métricas están bloqueadas por suconfiguración de consentimiento
Item type:Publicación, Assessment of physicochemical, microbial, and hygienic quality of raw cow milk produced in dairy herds from the Peruvian Andes(Universidad Politecnica Salesiana, 2025-02-28) ;Arauco Villar, Fernando ;Guzmán Estremadoyro, Leonor ;Esquivel, Rafael Antonio Pantoja ;Mayorga-Sanchez, NoemíUnchupaico-Payano, IdeThe study was performed in Mantaro Valley, Junín, Perú, with the aim to evaluate the physicochemical, microbial, and hygienical quality of 40 raw cows’ milk collected from dairy herds from four provinces: Huancayo (n = 13), Concepción (n = 11), Jauja (n = 9), and Chupaca (n = 7). Physicochemical properties were quantified by evaluating the fat content, density, non-fat-solids, protein, water add, freezing point, salts, total solids, lactose, and pH using the milk analyzer Lactoscan SP. Microbial quality was determined through viable mesophilic bacteria (VMB), total coliforms (TC), fecal coliforms (FC), and yeast and mold (YMC). In addition, antibiotic presence was measured by SNAPduo*ST plus test kit and Reduction time by Methylene Blue Dye Reduction (MBRT). The results found in this work indicate that physicochemical features of raw cow milk were adequate compared to standard levels. In microbial quality, only Chupaca showed higher values (6.28 log cfu/mL) than recommended (5.3 log cfu/mL). Likewise, total bacterial/mL in Huancayo (H, 19.12 × ) and Concepcion (C, 1.18 × ) were relatively high concerning the acceptable level (1× bacteria/mL of raw milk). Antibiotic presence was found in 37.5 % (n = 15) from the total of samples (n = 40). MBRT analysis reported 32.5 %, 45.0 %, and 22.5 %, as of excellent, good, and acceptable quality, respectively. Thus, it was concluded that physicochemical properties presented an appropriate level whereas microbial quality in the areas was good but is recommendable for enriched hygienic practices, personal hygiene in milk handling due to microbial presence, and educating the public on safety issues.Citas (OpenAlex): 4metric-badges.view 6 - Algunas métricas están bloqueadas por suconfiguración de consentimiento

Item type:Publicación, Solid Waste Management in Peru’s Cities: A Clustering Approach for an Andean District(2023-01-27) ;Quispe, Katherine ;Martínez, Mayra ;da Costa, Kleyton ;Romero Giron, HilarioVia y Rada Vittes, Jose FranciscoThere is a great deficiency in the collection and disposal of solid waste, with a considerable amount disposed of in dumps instead of in landfills. In this sense, the objective of this research is to propose a solid waste mitigation plan through recovery in the District of Santa Rosa, Ayacucho. For this, a solid waste characterization plan was executed in eight days, and through ANOVA it was shown that there is a significant difference in means between business pairs except between a bakery and a hotel. Through clustering, zones A and B are highly correlated, reflecting that the amount of organic waste was greater than inorganic waste. In the organic waste valorization plan, the results through ANOVA indicate a significant difference for monthly and daily averages, and the clustering shows the different behavior of each month, drawing attention to August, concluding that the valorization pilot plan is viable due to the contribution of a large amount of organic solid waste to the valorization plant.Citas (OpenAlex): 10metric-badges.view 8 - Algunas métricas están bloqueadas por suconfiguración de consentimiento
Item type:Publicación, Arabica-coffee and teobroma-cocoa agro-industrial waste biosorbents, for Pb(II) removal in aqueous solutions(Springer Science and Business Media Deutschland GmbH, 2023) ;Lavado-Meza, Carmencita R. ;de la Cruz-Cerrón, Leonel ;Cisneros-Santos, Gregorio; Suazo, Julio Miguel AngelesAgro-industrial waste biosorbents of arabica–coffee (WCA) and theobroma–cocoa (WCT) have been characterized and tested to remove Pb(II) from aqueous media. The maximum adsorption capacity of WCA and WCT (qmax = 158.7 and 123.5 mg·g−1, respectively) is comparable or even higher than for several other similar agro-industrial waste biosorbents reported in the literature. Structural and morphological characterization were performed by infrared spectrometry with Fourier transform (FT-IR), scanning electron microscopy/energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM/EDS), and charge measurements at the zero point charge (pHPZC). Both biosorbents, WCA and WCT, show cracked surfaces with heterogeneous plates which ones include functional adsorption groups such as OH, C = O and C-O-C. Optimal Pb(II) adsorption occurs for a pH between 4 and 5 at [WCA] and [WCT] dose concentrations of 2 g·L−1. We found that the adsorption process follows pseudo-second order kinetics with a rapid growth rate (almost six times larger for WCA than for WCT), basically controlled by the chemisorption process. The regeneration of both biosorbents was carried out in an eluent of 0.1M HNO3 and they can be efficiently reused up to 5 times.Citas (OpenAlex): 14metric-badges.view 3 - Algunas métricas están bloqueadas por suconfiguración de consentimiento
Item type:Publicación, Antifungal effect from Zingiber officinale, Aloe vera and Trichoderma sp. for control of Moniliophthora roreri in Theobroma cacao in Huánuco, Peru(2022-01-01) ;Soto Chochocca, Rocio Reyna ;Gonzales Avila, Elena; ;Angeles Suazo, Julio MiguelTheobroma cacao is the main raw material to produce chocolate, as well as for use in the food, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical industries. However, Moniliophthora roreri is one of the most destructive fungal diseases and the main limiting of cacao production worldwide. Thus, this work aimed to assess the inhibitory effect of extracts of Zingiber officinale (T1) and Aloe vera (T2), and Trichoderma harzianum + Bacillus subtillis. (T3) on Moniliophthora roreri infection in Theobroma cacao; in addition, a control (T4) was also evaluated. Each treatment was applied to six plants of cacao. Incidence of monilia infection and fruit weight were monitored every 15 days (in total four periods) after the application of the treatment by spray. Significant differences (P<0.05) were found among treatments for incidence. It was observed that spraying entire cacao trees after two times (approximately 30 days) showed a reduction of monilia infection. After all periods, T1, T2, and T3 showed an incidence of monilia infection by 20.5, 17.7, and 14.9% respectively, compared to cultural control of 41.1%. This reduction of moniliasis infection translates into an increase in fruit weight average for T3 (8.4 kg), T2 (7.3 kg), and T1 (6.9 kg). In contrast, in the control (T3), the fruit weight average decreased by 5.3 kg. Biological control showed efficient management of pathogens as M. roreri. It is recommended to use such antifungal (Aloe vera) spray over at least 120 days which would decrease infection incidence even more.Citas (OpenAlex): 7metric-badges.view 4 - Algunas métricas están bloqueadas por suconfiguración de consentimiento
Item type:Publicación, A machine learning approach to analyse ozone concentration in metropolitan area of Lima, Peru(2022-12-21) ;Carbo-Bustinza, Natalí ;Belmonte, Marisol ;Jimenez, Vasti ;Montalban, PaulaRivera, MagioryThe main objective of this study is to model the concentration of ozone in the winter season on air quality through machine learning algorithms, detecting its impact on population health. The study area involves four monitoring stations: Ate, San Borja, Santa Anita and Campo de Marte, all located in Metropolitan Lima during the years 2017, 2018 and 2019. Exploratory, correlational and predictive approaches are presented. The exploratory results showed that ATE is the station with the highest prevalence of ozone pollution. Likewise, in an hourly scale analysis, the pollution peaks were reported at 00:00 and 14:00. Finally, the machine learning models that showed the best predictive capacity for adjusting the ozone concentration were the linear regression and support vector machine.Citas (OpenAlex): 22metric-badges.view 6 - Algunas métricas están bloqueadas por suconfiguración de consentimiento
Item type:Publicación, Atmospheric Metal Biomonitoring Along a Highway Near Atlantic Rainforest Environmental Protection Areas in Southeastern Brazil(Springer, 2021-04-30) ;Beringui, Karmel; ;Maia, Luiz Francisco Pires GuimarãesGioda, AdrianaVehicles are quite possibly the main sources of particulate matter, and their emissions can cause damage to surrounding ecosystems. Traditional atmospheric monitoring, however, is expensive. Therefore, airborne biomonitoring is an alternative method that allows for air quality assessment. In this study, we evaluated air quality at a federal highway (BR-040) close to Atlantic Rainforest remnants by quantifying metals in biomonitor tissues by ICP-MS. Tillandsia usneoides and Tillandsia stricta plants were relocated to the investigation zone and collected after five months of exposure. Metal concentration profiles were evaluated using statistical analyses, namely exposure-to-reference (ER) ratios and enrichment factors (EF). Results indicate that V, Cr, Fe, Cu, Zn and Sn enrichment were observed in all study sites. The EF for Cr, Mn, Pb, Ni, Co, Cu, Zn, Cd, and Sn ranged from high to very high, indicating anthropogenic sources. Both species were effective atmospheric biomonitors, proving to be an important tool, mainly in areas where conventional monitoring is not possible.Citas (OpenAlex): 9metric-badges.view 3 - Algunas métricas están bloqueadas por suconfiguración de consentimiento

Item type:Publicación, Estimation of arsenic contents in rice purchased on Peruvian markets and estimation of dietary intake by Peruvians through rice consumption(2021-04-29) ;Zhunaula Guaman, Sonia Tatiana ;Coaquira Ccahua, Washington; ;Unchupaico Payano, IdeAngeles Suazo, Julio MiguelRice (Oryza sativa L) is an important source of essential elements but also can contain high As concentrations, which may be consumed and causes health effects. This work aimed to contribute to the lack of information quantifying the total arsenic (tAs) in 31 domestic rice (white rice, n=19; brown rice, n=7; parboiled rice, n=5) of different brands purchased in Peruvian markets. The tAs content was conducted by ICP-MS. The tAs concentration was compared to the maximum limits prescribed by regulatory agencies. Dietary intake (DI), dietary exposure (DE), and margin of exposure (MOE) were estimated. tAs concentration in white, brown and parboiled rice were 0.292 ± 0.106 mg/kg, 0.401 ± 0.081 mg/kg, 0.229 ± 0.03 mg/kg, respectively. Arsenic concentration in white rice exceeded limits recommended by FAO/WHO (0.20 mg kg-1), and European legislation (0.25 mg kg-1), but no Mercosul limits (0.3 mg kg-1). The DE showed that, on average, Peruvians consume 5.60 μg As kg-1 BW weekly. The MOE value was higher than 1 at the mean dietary exposure level. Our findings suggest that the health risk from dietary arsenic exposure is low for the Peruvian population. However, more studies are needed to reduce dietary arsenic exposure in Peru.Citas (OpenAlex): 4metric-badges.view 10
