Item type:Publicación, Social support at work and workload as predictors of satisfaction with life of Peruvian teachers(2023-08-31); ; ; ;Apaza Romero, AbelCastillo-Blanco, Ronald W.The repercussions of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) have generated effects on the working modality of teachers, in whom it is convenient to study variables associated with well-being. The objective with this research was to determine whether social support at work and workload predict satisfaction with life in a sample of Peruvian teachers. The methodology was a predictive and cross-sectional study, carried out on 584 Peruvian teachers of both genders selected in a non-probabilistic way; to whom the social support scale at work, the workload scale and the life satisfaction scale were applied. The survey was carried out virtually, and descriptive statistics, Pearson’s correlation coefficient and structural equation modelling (SEM) were conducted to examine the hypothetical model. In the analysis of the proposed model, an adequate fit was obtained, 2 (116) = 435.5, p < .001, CFI = .963, RMSEA = .069, SRMR = .059. Thus, H1 and H2 were confirmed on the positive effect of social support at work, = .27, p < .001, and the negative effect of workload, = .28, p < .001 in satisfaction with life. Likewise, the t values of the beta regression coefficients of the predictor variables were highly significant (p < 0.01). It was concluded that social support at work and an adequate workload predict a better level of satisfaction with life in a sample of Peruvian teachers.

Item type:Publicación, Academic self-efficacy, self-esteem, satisfaction with studies, and virtual media use as depression and emotional exhaustion predictors among college students during COVID-19(Elsevier Ltd, 2022-10-20); ; ; ;Caycho-Rodríguez, TomásThe aim of the study was to explore the relationship between depression, emotional exhaustion, self-esteem, satisfaction with studies, academic self-efficacy, and the use of virtual media in Peruvian university students during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. A total of 569 college students (61.9% female), with a mean age of 21.73 years (standard deviation = 4.95), responded to the following questionnaires: Academic Self-Efficacy Scale, Single Item Self-Esteem Scale, Brief Scale of Satisfaction with Studies, Scale of Use of Virtual Media, Patient Health Questionnarie-2, and Single Item of Academic Emotional Exhaustion. Correlation statistics, regression models, and structural equation modeling (SEM) were used for data analysis. The results demonstrated a direct and significant correlation between virtual media use, academic self-efficacy, self-esteem, depression, and emotional exhaustion (p < .01). In addition, satisfaction with studies (β = -0.13), academic self-efficacy (β = -0.19), self-esteem (β = -0.14), and emotional exhaustion (β = 0.19) predicted depression significantly, whereas virtual media use (β = 0.17), study satisfaction (β = 0.09), and depression (β = 0.20) predicted emotional exhaustion associated with academics. The SEM model indicated that self-esteem, satisfaction with studies, and academic self-efficacy negatively predict depression, whereas academic self-efficacy positively predicts virtual media use. Finally, both virtual media use and depression positively predict emotional exhaustion. This model presents optimal goodness-of-fit indices (X2 = 8.926, df = 6, p = .178; comparative fit = .991, Tucker-Lewis = .979, root mean square error of approximation = .029 [confidence interval 90% = .000-.067], standardized root mean square residual = .022). Thus, academic self-efficacy, self-esteem, satisfaction with studies, and virtual media use predict depression and emotional exhaustion among college students during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Item type:Publicación, Self-esteem and family satisfaction as predictors of life satisfaction in Peruvian highland university students(2024-02-27) ;Garnique-Hinostroza, Ronald ;Huanca Coaquira, Odón Helar; ; Castillo-Blanco, RonaldObjective To determine whether self-esteem and family satisfaction predict life satisfaction in university students from the Peruvian highlands. Methods A cross-sectional, predictive design study with the participation of 848 Peruvian university students of both sexes (31.7% male and 68.3% female) whose ages ranged from 17 to 41 years old ( M = 20.31 and SD = 3.66). The instruments used were Rosenberg’s self-esteem scale (RSE; 2000), Olson’s family satisfaction scale (FSS; 2006) and Diener’s life satisfaction scale (SWLS; 1985). Results Show that the proposed model had a fit of χ 2 (269) = 1709.6, p < 0.001, CFI = 0.957, RMSEA = 0.080, SRMR = 0.061, evidencing that positive self-esteem ( β = 0.21, p < 0.001) and family satisfaction ( β = 0.57, p < 0.001) significantly predict life satisfaction. Unlike negative self-esteem, which does not predict life satisfaction ( β = −0.09, p = 0.003). Conclusion Self-esteem, family satisfaction, life satisfaction, university students, Peru.
Item type:Publicación, Design and validation of the telework perception scale (Tele-Cov-19) in Peruvian primary schoolteachers(Academy of Medical and Health Sciences of Catalonia and the Balearic Islands, 2022-07-15); ; ; ; Introducción: Diseñar y validar una escala de percepción acerca del teletrabajo en docentes de educación básica peruanos.
Item type:Publicación, Translation and validation of the satisfaction with life scale in the native Quechua (Collao variant) language of southern Perú(Elsevier Ltd, 2023-11-01); ; ; ;Tito-Betancur, MadonaCaycho-Rodríguez, TomásResearch on life satisfaction in indigenous populations is limited due to language barriers. Therefore, this paper aimed to translate and validate the Life Satisfaction Scale into the original Quechua language (collao variant) of southern Peru. The research was classified as instrumental and transversal and was conducted with the voluntary participation of 242 Quechua adults speaking the collao variant. The instrument that was translated was the 5-item SWLS, previously adapted to Peruvian Spanish. The internal structure was analyzed under an analytical-factorial approach, and the discrimination and difficulty of the items were evaluated from the item response theory (IRT). Expert judgment was favorable for all items (V > 0.70), confirming the 1-dimensional structure of the scale (χ2 = 8.972, df = 5, p = .000; CFI = 0.985; TLI = 0.970 and RMSEA = 0.057), with acceptable reliability (ω = 0.65). All the items of the scale presented adequate discrimination indices; in addition, the results of the evaluation of factorial invariance as a function of gender demonstrated configurational equivalence but an absence of metric invariance. In conclusion, the SWLS translated into Collao Quechua (collao variant) has a stable factorial structure and adequate internal consistency, although it was not possible to completely demonstrate the invariance by gender, it can be used for initial investigations to measure satisfaction with life of the Quechua-speaking indigenous population of southern Peru.
Item type:Publicación, Revalidation of an ultra-short scale for the measurement of perceived job security in Latin America(2022-08-05) ;Vinelli-Arzubiaga, Daniella ;Rodríguez-Alarcón, Jean Franco ;Jaramillo-Aguilar, Damary Silvana ;Rapre-Arteaga, Yussahara M.Aperrigue-Lira, ShalomIntroduction: Due to the measures imposed by governments to reduce the spread of this new virus, the economic sector was one of the most affected during the COVID-19 pandemic. Several labor sectors had to undergo a virtual adaptation process resulting in job instability and job loss. The objective of this study was to revalidate an ultra-short scale for measuring perceived job security in Latin America. Methods: A revalidation study was done on a short scale that measures worker's perceived security about losing or keeping their job in the near future. Results: The four items remained on the revalidated scale, where all four explained a single factor. The goodness-of-fit measures confirmed the single-factor model (χ: 7.06; df: 2; p = 0.29; mean square error: 0.015; goodness-of-fit index: 0.998; adjusted goodness-of-fit index: 0.991; comparative fit index: 0.999; Tucker-Lewis index: 0.997; normalized fit index: 0.998; incremental fit index: 0.999; and root mean square error of approximation: 0.036). The scale's reliability was calculated using McDonald's omega coefficient, obtaining an overall result of ω = 0.72. Conclusions: The scale was correctly revalidated in Latin America, and the four items were kept in a single reliable factor.
Item type:Publicación, Association between frequency of breakfast consumption and cardiometabolic risk in Peruvian university teachers, 2019–2020(2023-07-28); ;Baquedano-Santana, Laura E.; ;Ramos‐Vera, CristianSerpa‐Barrientos, AntonioBackground Although the relationship between health status and dietary intake has been extensively studied in the general population, there is a lack of research that has specifically examined the association between frequency of breakfast consumption and cardiometabolic risk in university teachers. Objective To determine the association between the frequency of breakfast consumption and cardiometabolic risk in university teachers. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted in 176 teachers from a private university located in the eastern region of Lima, Peru ( M age : 37.0 years; SD: 0.8, range: 24–59 years). The study was conducted during the period from December 2019 to February 2020. Information was collected on anthropometric and biochemical parameters and frequency of breakfast consumption. Multinomial logistic regression models were used to explore the association between frequency of breakfast with sociodemographic, anthropometric, and biochemical variables. Results The highest prevalence of excess body weight (44.4%) was observed in those who consumed breakfast 0 to 2 days/week, but without statistical differences. Those who reported Low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) < 160 mg/dL were 77% less likely to fall into the 3–5 day/week breakfast frequency category than those who reported a regular frequency of breakfast (6 to 7 days/week) (Adjusted OR = 0.23, 95% CI 0.08 to 0.73; p < 0.05). In addition, teachers who reported a breakfast frequency of 3 to 5 days/week were 83% more likely to have a glucose concentration < 110 mg/dL compared to those who consumed breakfast of 6 to 7 days/week (Adjusted OR = 0.17, 95% CI 0.04 to 0.75; p < 0.05). Conclusion Skipping breakfast for an extended period of time can have detrimental effects on cardiometabolic health. Promoting the benefits of breakfast could be a health message of great public health interest.
